Musala
( 2,925m, 9,596ft ) the highest mountain in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula. It is higher than the nearby Mount Olympus in Greece. The
name derives from Mus Allah - "the mountain of Allah", so named when Bulgaria was part of the Ottoman Empire. Musala is situated within the Rila National Park, two hours from Sofia the capital of Bulgaria. Borovets, a major ski resort, is located near by and there are several huts located on its slopes.
